A Love Story Written in Mi Cocina Receipts

If our dating life had a paper trail, a lot of it would be Mi Cocina receipts going back to 2016. For four years straight, Mi Cocina was our Thursdays. I’d land at DFW after a week of consulting travel, Lauren would pick me up, and we’d drive straight to the West Village location to recap the week over Mambo Taxis. After four days on the road in who-knows-what city, Mi Cocina always felt like coming home.

By the time we got married in 2024, our signature cocktails wrote themselves: his-and-hers Mambo Taxis. Lauren has run every Mambo Miles since the very first one in 2021, including last year’s while pregnant with our daughter Clara, and she plans to run it again this year, pregnant with our second. Clara’s first restaurant came nine days into life, on Christmas Eve, asleep in her stroller in Highland Park Village while we enjoyed our favorite Mambos and fajitas. Thirty-five years for you, about ten for us, and still counting for both.
