National Tequila Day is more than just a reason to enjoy some cocktails, it’s a celebration of culture, heritage and the history of tequila. The origins of tequila can be dated as far back as the Aztecs in the form of mezcal, prior to the arrival of the Spaniards. The popular drink as we know it today was first produced and distilled in the town of Tequila, Mexico by the Spaniards around 1525 A.D. Tequila is unique because it is made from blue agave, which only grows in the surrounding areas of the modern day state of Jalisco, Mexico. There are now over 1000 different brands of tequila and the rising popularity of tequila has evolved into a national day of celebration on July 24th. In light of National Tequila Day, we caught some of our Mi Cocina bartenders making their favorite margaritas for guests. What’s your favorite? Let us know!
